Totally agree, and actually remember my epiphany. When I heard that @kchonyc and @thoma_gu were also working on NMT for simultaneous translation my first reaction was "oh no, I need to work faster", but finally I reached out to them and we worked together: https://t.co/v53BRO9UD8

I gave a talk on "How Can We Know *What* and *When* Language Models Know?" at #LxMLS2021. Check it out if you're interested in prompting or confidence estimation methods for language models! Slides: https://t.co/2SCsXkBg8I Video: https://t.co/fDGDFdzdgP

I definitely feel this as well and think there are a few explanations: * Exp 1: Our collective attention span is getting shorter * Exp 2: Research is moving faster, so older work becomes less relevant faster I think actually it's somewhere in the interval between 1 and 2.

One attractive feature of GitHub's "Copilot" (https://t.co/JxbhjY0XMx) is that code generated by an AI system is (allegedly) unencumbered by pesky licenses, even w/ models trained on licensed code. For those w/o Copilot access that want this functionality, check out CoderX! 1/4

"Paraphrastic representations at scale" is a strong, blazing fast package for sentence embeddings by @johnwieting2 Paper: https://t.co/LlHbH788b2 Code: https://t.co/91XR75PDG9 Beats Sentence-BERT, LASER, USE on STS tasks, works multilingually, and is up to 6,000 times faster 😯

In Fall 2021, CMU is updating its NLP curriculum, and 11-747 "Neural Networks for NLP" is being repurposed into 11-711 "Advanced NLP", the flagship research-based NLP class 😃 More NLP fundamentals, still neural network methods. Stay tuned! (CMU students, please register!)
